The St. Bernard Paris Library proudly took part in the 5th annual Ask-a-Lawyer event sponsored by the Louisiana State Bar Association on Thursday, October 25, 2018. This free event is held during National Celebrate Pro Bono Week and is part of the LSBA’s Lawyers in Libraries program.
The ‘Lawyers in Libraries’ program is part of a larger Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) initiative called the Legal Education and Assistance Program (LEAP) which provides helpful information to the public via public libraries. Libraries throughout the state committed to promoting and hosting the events including scheduling appointments in advance.
Five attorneys from various law firms throughout the St. Bernard/New Orleans area volunteered their services and offered free legal advice to 52 participants. The 30-minute sessions were held at the main branch of the St. Bernard Parish Library and ran from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Those seeking counsel were able to discuss topics such as bankruptcy, civil lawsuits, custody, divorce, successions, and wills were just a few of the issues that were addressed. Participating attorneys were: Eric Bopp, Lisa Borne, Mike Ginart, Daniel Nodurft, and Van Robichaux.
